PFI owns long-term assets, so making sustainable, enduring decisions is critical for delivering positive outcomes for our tenants and investors. PFI is focused on embedding sustainability in our core business activities, to position PFI for the future.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Aspiration: The embodied and operational greenhouse gas emissions associated with PFI’s buildings are minimised.

Key Achievements:

  • Phased out especially harmful R22 refrigerant gases from heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems within our operational control.
  • Committed to a 5 Green Star target for development projects at Bowden Road and Springs Road.
  • Installed power metering and monitoring at 63% of properties in our portfolio (as at 30 June 2024) to help us to understand the operational performance (energy and water use) of the buildings at those sites.
  • Achieved our target of installing solar panels at five buildings by the end of 2025 ahead of time, helping our tenants to move to renewable energy.
Resources and Waste

Aspiration: The impacts from the materials that PFI uses and the waste PFI produces during developments and refurbishments are minimised.

Key Achievements:

  • Established an internal sustainable refurbishment framework.
  • Committed to a 5 Green Star target for development projects at Bowden Road and Springs Road.
Disaster and Climate Resilience

Aspiration: PFI’s buildings are resilient and we are well placed to respond to disasters.

Key Achievements:

  • Produced three voluntary climate-related disclosures (TCFD) reports (FY20-22) and two mandatory Climate-Related Disclosures reports
People and Wellbeing

Aspiration: Our people are safe and engaged, and we promote positive social impacts through our operations.

Key Achievements:

  • Achieved strong staff engagement (86% in 2023).
  • Engaged with our community through volunteering, sponsorship and donations.
Economic Value

Aspiration: The value of PFI grows to create economic value for investors, tenants, our people and others that we work with.

Key Achievements:

  • Established our inaugural green funding facilities during 2023.
Key Targets
  • Significant new buildings to target minimum 5 Green Star certification. PFI has been awarded a 5 Star Green Star Design & As Built NZv1.0 Design rating for our Stage 1 development at 30-32 Bowden Road. We are also targeting 5 Green Star certification for the remaining stage 2 at 30-32 Bowden Road and all stages at 78 Springs Road.
  • Implement power metering and monitoring for 50% of properties by the end of 2025. At 30 June 2024, PFI had installed power metering at 63% of properties. PFI has since revised its metering target to: Implement power metering and monitoring for 90% of properties by the end of FY25.
  • Install solar systems at five buildings by the end of 2025. At 30 June 2024, PFI had completed solar installations at 5 buildings for our tenants Electrolux, AMI RepairHub, Central Joinery, Tokyo Food and Daikin.
